The Women vs Whlikv
A movement has been organized in
certain localities in Ohio among Uie
ladies for the suppression of the liquor
traffic At Hilliboro Vienna Spring
field Pomcroy Willlamsport Day-
ton and other point a the women have
gone in force to the bar room and
with their prayers and entreaties have
achieved somo wonderful results
Through their iojtrurjygpUlity per-
sons engaged in the liquor traffiojhave
voluntarily given up their business
and pledged themselvee never te en
gage in it again Quite an excite-
ment prevails in these localities and
the iiewipapers give whole columns
in detailing the mode of operations
and the results The latest we have
seen from the seat of war Is a Paris
dispatch fromRipley Ohio dated
Feb 5th which reads a tollows
Under tha superintendence of Rev
J H Patchof Circleville the ladies
of this place have formed a mission-
ary band for labor in the temperance
retorru There TTive been nearly one
hundred women under the leadership
of Mrs Granville Moody Mrs Mc
Millau and Mr Weeks all day Un-
der their prayers and tear and the
power of God liquor sellort have
pledgedtkemselvra to abandon the
business There are still some who
have thus tar refused but are kind
and respeetful to the ladies The
publio aympaty for the cause of the
women Is intense The power ot
these women with God on their side
is wonderful Men who were first in
clined to make sport of this move
meat have acknowledged tbeir mis
take in tears All denominations
united freely in ibis work The men
gatherln prayer and the women work
A tremendous mass meeting is now
being held in the Presbyterian
Church
The suit oi the heirs of Jesse L
Savage oi New Havenfor the sum of
the polloy 5000 held by him in the
Travelers Insurance Company of
Hartford is now being tried in New
Haven Mr Savage was murdered
by some unknown persons on the
night ot October 1st 1870 on La-
fayette street New Haven and the
company refusca to pay the insur-
ance on the alleged ground that
Savage died from wounds infiioted by
himself
