Christmas
activities
scheduled
The Spirit of Christmas is in the
air on McMurry's campus. Nu-
merous activities have already
begun and others arc being
planned to celebrate the festive
season.
McMurry's theatre department
is currently performing "A
Christmas Carol: Scrooge and
Marlcy." It is an adaptation of
the Dickens classic by Israel
Horovitz. The play began last
night and will continue tonight at
8 Saturday at 2 and 8 and
Sunday at 2 and 8. It is being held
in Ryan Fine Arts Little Theatre.
Tickets may be purchased at the
door.
The Art Department is current-
ly hosting an Art Faculty Show in
the Ryan Center Gallery and an
art faculty and student art sale in
the Ryan lobby. The art show will
continue through Dec. 16. The art
sale will be held today from 9
a.m. to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from
9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
There will be approximately
1000 works of art for sale. Prices
will range from miniature paint-
ings for $3.50 up to landscapes
and portraits for $2500. he
average price will be approxi-
mately S12 with the sale being
predominantly pottery of Christ-
mas gift type items.
McMurry's band will perform
their Christmas concert at 8 p.m.
December 9 in the Ryan Little
Theatre. This is free of charge
and counts as a college scries
credit.
Both President dorm and Mar-
tin dorm will carry on the tradi-
tion of Pollyanna gifts. For three
consecutive nights the girls leave
a gift at the door of the girl who's
name they drew. On the fourth
night there is a party in the dorm
lobby and each girl finds out who
her Pollyanna is. The men's dorm
also exchange gifts.
Many of the organizations and
social clubs have Christmas par-
ties planned. These parties often
include Christmas caroling de-
corating Christmas trees eating
goodies and exchanging gifts.
Some organizations also parti-
cipate in service activities such as
caroling at nursing homes.
Presentation of giant
Holiday card slated
McMurry College will present a
Holiday Card in the form of a
giant mural to the people of
Abilene on Tuesday Dec. 6 in
ceremonies in Wah Wahtaysce
Park near the intersection of
South 14th Street and Sayles
Boulevard.
The ceremonies will begin at 3
p.m. with officials from the
college and a representative of
the city of Abilene on hand. All
students faculty and staff are
encouraged to attend the ceremo-
nies. The card to be eight feet tall by
12 feet wide was initiated by
Thcta Chi Lambda a women's
social club at McMurry. The
purpose is to express the appreci-
ation of the students of McMurry
College to the people of Abilene
for theii help throughout the past

More than 50 high school
students from all over Texas will
experience college campus life
firsthand during McMurry
College's Student Preview Days
today and Saturday.
Juniors and seniors from as far
away as Houston and Lovington
N.M. will attend classes visit
with faculty and administrative
staff stay overnight in a dormi-
tory meet current students enjoy
live entertainment and may au-
dition for band choir or theatre.
The visiting students will check

semester and have been working
on the project for the past

The card consists of three
panels measuring four feet in
width and eight feet in height.
The Initial panel on the left will be
a Christmas greeting showing a
star over the city of Bethlehem.
The center panel will be a
greeting to the people of Abilene
from the college and many of the
social and honor organizations.
The right panel will be a New
Year's greeting showing a sunrise

(3-5) will be for free time audi-
tions and moving into the resi-
dence halls.

In a recent survev. vcmi
McMurry students were asked
the question: "If you could be any
professor at McMurrv. who would
you be and why?"
The following are a few of the
selected answers:
Carol Snider Senior: "I would
be Dr. Gary Shanafelt because
then I would never have to ficht
the battle of the bulge. It must be
nice to be skin and bones!"
Shirla Forrest. Freshman: "I
would love to be Dr. Joyce Carroll

during Friday's dinner in the
Campus Center Snack Bar. After
dinner the visiting students may
cither watch a video movie in the
Snack Bar or attend McMurry
Theatre's production of "A
Christmas Carol: Scrooge and
Marlcy." Studio McMurry will
open later for the visitors'

This will be the first of three
McMurry Student Previews. Sub-
sequent previews will be in Feb-
ruary and March 1984. The
Student previews arc sponsored
by the McMurry Student Govern-
ment and Indian Insight an
admissions support group. Regi-
stration deadline is two weeks
prior to the Preview dates. A S10
fee covers all meals housing and
live entertainment.
