Twelve McMurry Students Participated
In Model United Nations Last Week
International affairs seem to
be of mnjor importance in the
news all the time Are the stu-
dents at McMurry College in-
terested? Yes and this interest
is funneled into student partici-
pation in. the Model United Nn-
lions held nt Oklnhomn Univer-
sit in Norman Oklnhomn
Twelve McMurry students took
part in the OMUN this pnot
week ilnn 31 -Feb 3 nnd they
plnyed a significant role in the
proceedings
Two delegations were taken to
the OMUN. The Itnlinn delega-
tion chnired by Cindy Ruckcr
consisted of Susnn evnns Ger-
ry Anderson Bill Fry Janice
Brynnt and Nancy Knowles
Pamela Burnett chairman of
the Kuwait delegation worked
with further delegation mem-
bers Kevin Manning Anne

two delegations
The committees were struc-
tured on the basis of the nitunl
United Nntions'8 Committees as
was the General Assembly with
the facilities modeled after the
forum building in New York On
Thursday the Political nnd Sec
Ruckcr
unt Committee Specinl Politi-
cal Committee and Social
Humanitarian and. Cultural
Committee met to delibe'rnte re-
solutions concerning such topics
ns the World Food Council crea-
tion of Palestinian State
political dissidents Anrtheld
Outer Spnce nnd the Indinn
Ocean On Friday and Saturday
delegates met in the General
Assembly to discuss and pnss re-
solutions dealing with the above
topics The Security Council nnd
the Economic and Social Council
met all three days
Both McMurry delegations
took an active part in behind the
scenes caucausing and in the ac-
tual heated debate in an effort to
get their resolutions accepted
All resolutions submitted by the
delegations were considered
and amendments proposed by
both were eventually accepted
after General Asembly consid-
eration The Oklahoma Model United
Notions is a prestigious event
held each yenr in which
McMurry continues to be well-
represented It is n time of in-
tense intellectual stimulation
involved role playing and just
plain fun!
Ski Trip Was "Snow Spectacular" For Students

what a wonderful expenenco
wns provided by the "Snow Spec-
tacular" week in Copper Moun-
tain Colorado IWrs David and
Mr. Gilletto the sponsors ex-
pressed greut enthusiasm of the
trip that was attended by
thirty-five persons including
many McMurry students during
the week of January 1-8
"Transportation was provided
by the Air Couch Bus Lines"
Mr Gillette stated "and we had
a rather unique experience in
tho process!"
"The sponsor related that dur-
ing the join ney a stop wns made
in Amnnllo for supper The bus
driver dropped us off nt a re-
stnuiunt promising to return in
an hour oi so We finished our
meal nnd then waited for two
hours when the driver cnlled
and told us that the bus had
broken down at tho truck stop
where ho had gone to refuel
Trnnsportntion was provided for
us to the truck stop where we
literally "sacked out" in one por-
tion of the restnurnnt We were
mnrooned there from 9pm to 6
n m the following morning
when o bus nrrived from
Abilene "
Ski Lessons were nvuilable to
those who did not know how to
ski though there were only a
couple of "first timers" on the
slopes Events throughout the
week kept the skieis busy such
ns the Nnstnr Rates in which
two members of the McMun
group from South Plums College
won bronze medals
And then there weie the Fun
Races described by Bob Gillette
ns "sort of on obstacle course on
skis" Several students from
McMurry placed in this event
Approximately 1050 people
participated in the Compete-
vents Annual Snow Spectacu-
lar' thisyeur Competeventsisa
recreational company in St
Louis which planb the Snow
Spectacular as well as other
vacaton pneknges
Peggy David assures all that
