McMurr University Presi-
dent Dr Mike Somahtc (pro-
nounced so-mott-e) announced
at a pi ess luncheon csterday
that the plans to move MU have
heca finalized The billion dollar
projict is expected to begin con-
struction March 17 2025 and be
completed b August of 2028
According to Dr Sonmhte "Ex-
pansion is a necessity in prog-
ression and improvement of our
utmersit and its facilities Wc
have depicted the land availn-
bilit.v heie in Abilene to the ex-
tent that additional facilities
cannot he constructed There-
fore we huve chosen the only al-
ternative to move to a land
area with availability and loca-
tion for continued expansion
and improvement of our univer-
siv '
The new campus will be lo-
cated two kilometers southeast
of the Baird-Eula-Clyde met-
ropolitan area The two square
kilometer trnct of land was
pui chased by McMurry in 1993
to promote the newly estab-
lished agriculture program
The new campus will include
apartment housing for students
to accommodate an expected
12 000 undergraduate students
h the fall of 2028 Twelve
r) stor mule and twelve 5-story
female apartment complexes
will he constructed with each
male complex having nn ad-
joing female comlex Each ad-
joining complex will have coed
cafeteria and gymnasium as
well us an indoor-outdoor
swimming pool and twelve
indoor-outdoor tennis courts
Each apartment will accommo-
date four persons comfortably
with three eductional television
instructors video-library living
room auto kitchen two baths
three bedrooms with air-
controlled beds solar heuting
