ResLife
to change
residential
living
By Lauren Sutton
Corv Epitor
Edwards and Sikcs Hall
will adopt a model similar to
that of Barret Hall women
on one side men on the other
In (he coming school ) car.
Residence life director John
Delon) discussed tills change
and other anticipated changes
regarding students' on campus
living experience at a ResLife
meeting Wednesda) .
"Quite frankl) I was blown
away" Dclon) said about the
ResLife staff's response to
the proposed changes. "As
it alwa)s happens the) were
ahead of the game. That's the
great thing about working
with college students; they're
alwas one step ahead."
Dclon) explained that pro-
viding a gender-specific ex-
perience for freshmen and a
more coed atmosphere for
sophomores will provide for
more inclusive learning.
"We're going to be cr) In-
tentional about the program-
ming addressing issues that
the whole country is dealing
with through discussions"
Dclon) said "That will in-
clude bringing in facult) in to
speak and reall) getting stu-
dents interested."
To increase safety another
change for the 2008 09 school
)ear Includes lockdown for
each of the residence halls.
Right now the halls arc onl)
locked in the evenings but
RcsUfc's proposed plan in-
cludes students swiping their
ID cards an) time they want to
enter their hall
Delon) also explained that
the freshman curfew exten-
sion continues to be a wel-
comed and positive change
for students and staff.
"Curfew had been a big
thing that ever) one had been
wanting" said Reid Overall
senior missions major from
Abilene. "Moving curfew
back 30 minutes has had a big
impact on the hall but at the
same time It hasn't effected
the community of the hall."
An overarching theme for
ResLife changes is that of
Intentionally.
"I have noticed more of a
presence of administration"
Overall said. "The) are ver)
approachable. You can go by
the Reslife office and it's not
an inconvenience. You know
they have) our back."
In the coming ) ear ResLife
will begin to focus more on
training for what Delon) said
he hopes will produce Christ-
centered student-leadership
development And this he
