Meetings
The one hundredth annual meeting of the TSHA is only a month
behind us, and already we are looking forward to 1997 and our
Centennial Meeting. We will be gathering for this very special meeting
in Austin, March 6-8, 1997, at the Stouffer Renaissance Austin Hotel.
The program committee, under the leadership of Cynthia Beeman of
the Texas Historical Commission, is putting together a strong slate of
sessions that cover the entire spectrum of Texas history.
We will have our usual annual meeting features-scores of history pre-
sentations, banquets and guest speakers, auctions of rare Texana, book
displays and signings, social events and receptions-but for our TSHA
Centennial Meeting (1897-1997) we will have any number of special
events and surprises. Keep looking at this spot for the next several issues
so that we can bring you up to date on our special plans. The Centennial
Meeting is one that you will not want to miss, so please set aside March
6-8 on your 1997 calendar.

The Western History Association's thirty-seventh annual conference
will be held in St. Paul, Minnesota, on October 15-18, 1997. The con-
ference theme will be "Western Visions: Many Voices, Many
Landscapes." The program committee for the 1997 meeting requests
proposals for papers and sessions on all aspects of western history. In
keeping with the mission of the WHA, the committee seeks to embrace a
wide definition of the West and looks for submissions from the region's
