170 Southwestern Historical Quarterly
mendations, which the Executive Council accepted and the staff is now
in the process of carrying out. Shortly we hope to offer back issues to
the membership at a price that will cover the costs of handling.
The Western History Association had a most successful meeting in
Austin in October 1991. The Association cosponsored the meeting and
received a lot of good publicity as a result. We have received letters of
thanks from both the president, David J. Weber of Southern Methodist
University, and Paul Hutton, executive director of the Western History
Association, at the University of New Mexico.
NEW BUSINESS
Proposed New Bylaws for the Association
As a result of several conversations in the Long Range Planning
Committee meetings, President Lale asked Jenkins Garrett to chair a
committee to prepare a draft of new bylaws for the Association. A draft
of his proposal follows this report. According to the current constitu-
tion, amendments must be recommended by the Executive Council
and approved by two-thirds of the members present and voting at any
annual meeting. Notice of the amendment(s) must be given in the an-
nouncement of the meeting at least thirty days prior to the meeting.
