Photograph of an unidentified Union cavalry sergeant taken at the Blessing
and Brother Gallery in Houston, c. 1865. The soldier pictured here was with
the occupation forces stationed in Texas during the early Reconstruction pe-
riod. This carte de visite-a visiting-card style of photograph created in France
and popular in the United States in the 186os is very similar to the one pic-
