Meetings
The Association will hold its ninety-fourth annual meeting in Austin
at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, March 1-3, 199o. Program chairman
Mike Campbell and his committee have been considering papers and
sessions for some time now, but there is still time to submit a proposal
before the committee's final meeting in late May. Write before May 15
to Randolph B. (Mike) Campbell, Department of History, University of
North Texas, P.O. Box 13735, Denton 76203-3735, or give him a call at
817/565-2288. Because it is sometimes difficult to fit a single paper into
the program, you are encouraged to submit a complete session consist-
ing of a chairman and three presentations (include a commentator if
there are only two presentations). Mark off March 1-3 on your calen-
dar and make plans to join us in Austin in 199o for the beginning of
our centennial decade.
The Oral History Association will hold its annual meeting in Gal-
veston, October 19-22, 1989. Michael Gillette of the LBJ Library is
chairman of the program committee and Ronald E. Marcello of the
University of North Texas is this year's OHA president. Ron will pre-
side at the meeting in Galveston. The meeting will include presenta-
tions and noted speakers, workshop sessions, media presentations, and
tours of historic Galveston and nearby museums. For registration
forms and membership information contact the OHA, c/o Richard C.
Smith, 1093 Broxton Ave., #72o, Los Angeles, CA 90024.
Clippings
Once in a great while an individual comes along whose leadership,
guidance, and contributions become part of the very fabric of an orga-
nization or institution. The TSHA has been blessed with a few such
men in recent years. A. Frank Smith, Jr., first vice president of the As-
sociation and chairman of the development committee, is one of them.
In addition to his own generous donations to numerous Association
programs and projects, Mr. Smith has been responsible for helping us
raise many hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Handbook of Texas
project. We are pleased to hear that Southwestern University in
Georgetown honored him last October by naming the $6.5 million ad-
dition to its library the A. Frank Smith, Jr., Library Center. This im-
pressive and attractive new center, which greatly expanded and mod-
ernized Southwestern's library facilities, was designed by the Houston614
