Clippings
More than five hundred persons attended the Association's ninety-
second annual meeting, which was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in
Austin on March 3-5. The theme was "A Year of Centennials," as we
celebrated the opening of the Texas State Capitol Building and the
births of two Texas luminaries, J. Frank Dobie and Walter Prescott
Webb. The observances began on Thursday, March 3, with a session on
the history of the Capitol and continued that evening with a reception
to honor incoming president Jenkins Garrett of Fort Worth in the Lieu-
tenant Governor's Reception Room at the Capitol. Friday was devoted
to J. Frank Dobie, as Don Graham of the University of Texas at Austin
delivered a luncheon address on "J. Frank Dobie: A Reappraisal" and
Don Carleton of the Barker Texas History Center chaired a Dobie
symposium, which featured John Henry Faulk and Senator Ralph W.
Yarborough. Walter Prescott Webb was the subject on Saturday with
featured talks by Jenkins Garrett, Dorman H. Winfrey, and Betty170
