Southwestern Historical Quarterly
scripts and biological specimens was broken up and is now to be found
in various libraries and museums in America and Europe. This has
hampered unified study of Berlandier's contributions to history and to
science. Berlandier had three manuscript versions of his Journey. The
one whose translation is discussed here is in the Library of Congress.
The other versions are at Yale University and at the Thomas Gilcrease
Institute of American History and Art in Tulsa. Although these ver-
sions are known not to be identical, no one seems to have compared
all three and determined how much they differ in content. It is evi-
