Meetings
The Association will hold its eighty-seventh annual meeting March 3-
5, 1983, at the Shamrock Hotel in Houston. The program and local
arrangement committees have planned an exceptionally fine meeting.

The American Popular Culture Association's annual meeting will
be held in Wichita, Kansas, April 24-27, 1983. The Association in-
vites papers/presentations on a wide array of topics including Mid-
America places such as the South, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma,
Ozark culture, Plains culture, and Texas. For further information

"Interpreting Southern History," a symposium in honor of San-
ford W. Higginbotham, editor of the Journal of Southern History,
1965-1983, will be held February 18-19, at Rice University. The sym-
posium will consist of panel discussions of the significant recent schol-
arship on the history of the South. For further information write to

Accessions
Rice University's Fondren Library officially and appropriately be-
came a major center for the study of manned space flight with the re-
cent transfer to the University of thousands of historical materials
collected during the past twenty years by NASA from the Lyndon B.
Johnson Space Center.
Skylab astronaut Joseph P. Kerwin, who served as science-pilot for
the Skylab 2 mission launched on May 25 and terminated on June 22,
1973, and who is currently in charge of the on-orbit branch of the
Astronaut Office, addressed a Rice/NASA audience on the occasion.
The manned-flight collection consists of letters, memoranda, Telex
messages, minutes of meetings, reports, proposals, and taped inter-346
