ism. Maston, therefore, wisely endeavored to rest the Christian Life
Commission of Texas on a conservative foundation. Likewise, the 1968
crisis statement combined the traditional Baptist emphasis on personal
regeneration with a growing awareness of social responsibility. It was
a combination that Walter Rauschenbusch, perhaps the most important
social gospel minister, would have understood.
