Meetings
The Association will hold its eighty-third annual meeting at the Mar-
riott Hotel in Austin on March 6-8, 1980. The Program Committee (Jim
B. Pearson, Chairman; David B. Gracy, II; Larry D. Hill; Felix D. Al-
mariz, Jr.; and William Griggs) have put together a fine set of sessions.
The meeting will also attract related groups that will hold joint sessions
with the TSHA. These include the Texas Folklore Society; Texas Bap-
tist Historical Society; Society of Southwest Archivists; Texas Catholic
Historical Society; Texas Historical Commission; Victorian Society in
America, Texas Chapter; and the Texas Archaeological Society.
The annual auction of Texana will be held on Friday afternoon
March 7, beginning at 3:oo P.M. The auction has been used for years as
a very important means of funding many Association activities. So look
around and send us some really fine Texana for the event.
The East Texas Historical Association will hold its spring meeting in
Tyler on February 22-23, 1980.
Clippings
The Association's endowment fund drive for $500,000 received a tre-
mendous boost in August with news that a Texas foundation would make
a grant of $50,000 to the effort. The foundation desires to remain anony-
mous. The grant will be made in five equal installments of $1o,ooo each;
the first payment came with the announcement. The Association is high-
ly appreciative of the gift and the initial installment is already at work
earning interest to support this organization's many and multifaceted
activities.
A number of members have recently made gifts to the Association to
spur us on our $500,000 fund-raising efforts. F. Lee Lawrence, Chilton
O'Brien, Mr. and Mrs. Mills Cox, Alex Knight, and Paul G. Bell, Jr., each
contributed $500. Capital National Bank sent a check for $300. Dr. and
