Southwestern Historical Quarterly
Meetings
The Association will hold its semi-annual meeting in Abilene,
Texas, on October 28, 1972, in conjunction with the West Texas His-
torical Association. The theme of the meeting is old forts in Texas.
The morning session of the meeting will feature Dessamae Lorraine
and Earl Green of the Texas Parks and Wildlife and State Archaeolo-
gist Curtis Tunnell as speakers. Willard B. Robinson, architectural
historian of Texas Tech University, will give the luncheon address.
In the afternoon members will tour old Fort Phantom Hill and wit-
ness an exhibit by the Fort Hood Cavalry Platoon, uniformed and
equipped in the 1870 Indian war period.
The regular annual meeting of the Association will be held in Aus-
tin on March 8-'o, 1973, at the Stephen F. Austin and the Driskill
hotels.
The Seventh National Colloquium on Oral History will meet at
the University of Texas, Austin, November 9-11, 1972. The meeting
is being co-sponsored by the Oral History Association; the University of
Texas, Austin; the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library; the Texas State
Historical Survey Committee; and the Texas State Historical Asso-
ciation.
The Collectors' Institute will hold its fifth annual meeting on No-
vember 18, 1972, at the Academic Center of the University of Texas,
Austin. The theme of the meeting will be special collections, with a
focus on the University of Texas's Smithers Photographic Collection
of the Big Bend area. W. D. Smithers and other authorities on the
Big Bend will speak at the morning session, and H. Allen Smith will
be the luncheon speaker.
The annual meeting of the Southern Historical Association is
scheduled for November 15-18, 1972, at Miami Beach.
The fourth annual meeting of the Gulf Coast History and Humani-
ties Conference will be held in Pensacola, Florida, November 3o-De-
cember 2, 1972. The theme of this year's conference will be "Gulf
Coast Politics: The Twentieth Century." Besides papers by leading
scholars on Gulf Coast politics, a workshop focusing on community204
