Meetings
The Association will hold its semi-annual meeting with the Har-
rison County Historical Society, at Marshall and Jefferson on Satur-
day, November 27. Registration will be at the Ginnochio Hotel,
Marshall, from 9-9:30 A.M., followed by a brief tour of the restored
hotel. Professor Randolph Campbell, Department of History, North
Texas State University, will give a paper, "Slavery in Harrison County,
185o-86o," at o10 A.M. at the. Old Courthouse. A tour of the mu-
seum at the Old Courthouse will follow. The group will then
motor to the famous Excelsior Hotel, Jefferson, for lunch ($3.50) .
Association President Dorman H. Winfrey will give the luncheon
address, "A Bridge Between Generations-the Junior Historians." The
one-day meeting will conclude with a tour ($4.00) of historic
Jefferson. Those wishing to attend the luncheon are. requested to
send in their reservations to Mrs. W. S. Terry, Excelsior Hotel, Jef-
ferson. The hotel can also accommodate overnight guests.
The Association's regular Annual Meeting will be held at the
Sheraton-Fort Worth Hotel, March 9-11, 1972. Former Association
President Wayne Gard has made the first contribution of books for
this year's auction of Texana. Look over your collection and pick
out a few good items to send in. The auction is very important in
carrying on the Association's work.
The Southern Historical Association will convene in Houston,
November 18-20, for its yearly meeting.
The third annual Gulf Coast History and Humanities Conference
will be held in Pensacola, December g and 4, 1971.

Since the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library is now a fact of
Texas life and will undoubtedly gain in importance to persons inter-
ested in the history of the Southwest, a few notes on the administrative
staff of that library are in order. If you have research or other
business with the library in the next several years, here are thumbnail
sketches of the people with whom you will most likely be working:
Director of the library is Harry J. Middleton, who was staff assist-
ant to President Johnson in the White House during 1967-1969.
