The Association staff was saddened to learn of the deaths of
the following members:

Frances Donecker
James A. Hockaday
Mrs. Walter Long
J. Milton Nance of Texas A8cM University, the 1967 program
chairman, is wrapping up plans for the Association's spring meet-
ing at the Driskill Hotel on March 17-18. For the early arrivals
the Texas Technological College parks development program will
show a film on Thursday night on the proposed historic parkway
through Central Texas. Considerable attention will be focused on
historical preservation in Texas. The Friday dinner speaker will
be Wallace Stegner, the eminent historian and novelist whose
Beyond the Hundredth Meridian has been coupled with Walter
P. Webb's The Great Plains as one of the two essential books for
anyone seeking an understanding of Western history. Dorman
Winfrey, the state librarian, will give the Saturday luncheon
address on the historic Toscanini tour of Texas in 1950. Meeting
with the TSHA on Saturday will be the Texas Institute of Letters.
Some program surprises are also in order.
As we go to press, we have received word of the death in Aus-
tin of Dr. Milton R. Gutsch, history professor at the University
of Texas for more than forty years, a former associate editor of
SWHQ, and co-editor of one of the Association's book publica-
tions.
