The accused then introduced Warrack Tunstallo as his Counsel.
He stated that he had no desire for a postponement and would
not delay the Commission.
The Charges were then read aloud by the Judge Advocate as
follows:

Charge Ist.
"Keeping and circulating Abolition Books"
In this that, the said W. W. Gamble, being the Proprietor or
keeper of a Book or Stationer's Store in the City of San Antonio,
did keep theirin for sale and general circulation, Books, the contents
of which were of an Abolition tendency, contrary to good Order
and the peace of society.
Charge 2nd.
"Attempting to pass the guards and to effect his escape from the
guard house."
In this, that, the said Wm. W. Gamble, did, while confined in
the guard house of San Antonio, on or about the 16th day of
June, attempt to pass the guard and effect his escape from Custody.
The accused temporarily waived the right to cross examine, until
the Book mentioned by the witness, was brought in to Court and
was willing for the Court to question the witness.

Where does Mr. Kidder reside?
Answer-I do not know positively, I hear of him sometimes on
the road over towards Louisiana, then Again at Austin, and some-
times here.
Question. Examine this Book sent the Commission by the Provost

SoWarrick Tunstall was born in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1814, moved to St. Louis
in the 184o's and with his family to San Antonio in 1854, where he was an attorney
