began to open the way to the spectacular development of natural
resources. This rapid transition culminated in the important role
geology played and is playing in the petroleum industry. Con-
versely, it should be acknowledged that never has any profession
received such impetus and vitality from an industry as geology
received from petroleum.
Dumble's dream was to see the natural resources of the South-
west and West utilized for the betterment of the area and its
people. That dream was indeed realized, and his own efforts were
outstanding in its fulfillment.
