James W. Fannin, J. Pinckney Henderson, Sam Houston, Anson
Jones, Mirabeau B. Lamar, Erastus (Deaf) Smith, and William
Barret Travis. These pictures represent the superior accomplish-
ments of depth in mosaics. This is a publication for both artists
and historians.
S Parks (December, 1962), a publication of the State Parks
Board, contains a short article on the Eisenhower Birthplace State
Park in Denison.
W. M. Morrison of Waco recently added to his ever growing
list of Civil War reprints a new edition of D. H. Hamilton,
History of Company M. First Texas Volunteer Infantry. Hood's
Brigade, Longstreet's Corps, Army of the Confederate States of
America.
The Panhandle-Plains Historical Review, XXXV (1962), con-
tains the second and concluding portion of "The Indian Cam-
paign on the Staked Plains, 1874-1875: Military Correspondence
from War Department Adjutant General's Office, File 2815-1874,"
compiled and edited by Joe F. 'Taylor of Amarillo College.
The Texas Permian Historical Annual of the Texas Permian
Historical Society, Vol. II, made its appearance in August, 1962.
The present work continues the high standards started in the
first volume published. Included are articles on: "Highlights in
the Early History of Crane County," by Charles Stroder; "Capt.
John Pope, First Driller in the Permian Basin," by Grace Thor-
mann King; "Some Highlights of Winkler County History," by
Margaret S. Kayser; "Our Wagon Train West," by Paul Patterson;
and "Andrews' First Fifty Years," by C. E. Carruth, James Roberts,
Wilson Bond, and Ruth Ann Kindiger.
Texas Military History (August, 1962), the quarterly journal
of the National Guard Association of Texas, contains articles on
"The Recruiting, Training, and Camp Life of a Company of
Hood's Brigade in Texas, 1861," by Harold B. Simpson; "Texas
Militia in the Spanish-American War," by Christian G. Nelson;
and "Chief Bowles of the Texas Cherokee," by Dorman H. Win-
