LEON MITCHELL, JR., "Camp Ford: Confederate Military Pris-
on," teaches history at Eastern Hills High School in Fort Worth.
His thesis for the M.A. degree which he received from the Uni-
versity of Texas in August, 1961, was on Prisoners of War in the
Confederate Trans-Mississippi.
HENRY W. BARTON, "Five 'Texas Frontier Companies During
the Mexican War," is an associate professor of English at Mid-
western University. At present he is on leave from Midwestern
and is serving as a colonel in the 49th Armored Division, Texas
National Guard, stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He received
an M.A. degree in history from the University of Texas in Jan-
uary, 1962.
ROBERT W. SHOOK, "The Battle of the Nueces, August io,
1862," is an instructor of history at Victoria College. He received
his B.A. and M.A. degrees from North Texas State University,
writing a thesis on German Unionism in Texas during the Civil
War and Reconstruction.
JOSEPH S. GALLEGLY, "Plays and Players at Pillot's Opera
House," is an associate professor of English at Rice University.
ALWYN BARR, "The Battle of Calcasieu Pass," is an editorial
assistant for the Southwestern Historical Quarterly. He received
B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Texas.
MERLE MEARS DUNCAN, "An 18go Richard Coke Letter," is
past president of the Association and a retired professor of history
at Baylor University.
LOTA M. SPELL, "The Grant and First Survey of the City of
San Antonio," has published a number of articles on the Spanish
heritage of Texas and the Southwest since receiving her Ph.D.
from the University of Texas. In addition she has taught music
and has served as editor of Texas Music News.
