This map in booklet form is Number 42 of 750 numbered copies printed in
December, 1955, by the Branding Iron Press, Evanston, Illinois. The booklet contains
a detailed description of the trail. A short history of the guide book itself is
enclosed by the publishers of the reprint of the only known 1874 edition. The
map shows Texas and parts of New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, Indian Territory,
Arkansas, Missouri; roads to Red River Crossing; the trail to Ellsworth and Russell;
J. S. Chisum's Trail from Fort Sumner to Las Animas, Colorado; supply stores,
crossings, large ranches along the trail; towns; forts; rivers; Kansas Pacific Railway;
Kansas Pacific dead line.
