ALWYN BARR, "Texas Coastal Defense, 1861-1865," is a grad-
uate student at the University of Texas, from which he received
his B.A. degree. He is presently an editorial assistant on both
the Southwestern Historical Quarterly and Texas Military His-
tory, the quarterly publication of the National Guard Association
of Texas.
A. RAY STEPHENS, "D. A. Orviss: Texas Merchant," received
his B.A. and M.A. degrees at the University of Oklahoma. While
a candidate for his Ph.D. degree at the University of Texas, he is
serving as a teaching assistant in history.
DONALD E. EVERETT, "San Antonio Welcomes the 'Sunset'-
1877," is an associate professor of history at Trinity University,
San Antonio, having received his B.A. degree from the University
of Florida and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Tulane Univer-
sity. He has written numerous articles on Southern history and
is now editing Nicholas A. Davis, The Campaign From Texas to
Maryland.
HENRY W. BARTON, "The Anglo-American Colonists Under
Mexican Militia Laws," is presently a member of the English
department at Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, having
received his B.A. degree from the University of 'Texas and his
M.A. degree from Southern Methodist University. As the com-
mander of the 645th Armored Field Artillery Battalion, 49th
Armored Division, Texas National Guard, Colonel Barton has
maintained a constant interest in the military affairs of 'Texas
and has written a number of articles on the subject.
RALPH A. WOOSTER, "Notes on Texas' Largest Slaveholders,"
received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Hous-
ton, and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Texas. He has
written a number of articles on the membership of Southern
secession conventions, and is now an assistant professor of history
at Lamar College in Beaumont.
