EDWARD EUGENE BRISCoE, "Pershing's Chinese Refugees in
Texas," is a graduate of Texas Christian University and St. Mary's
University, and presently is a member of the faculty of Edgar
Allan Poe Junior High School in San Antonio. Briscoe has done
extensive research in the local history of his native Crawford
County, Arkansas, and has published several articles on topics
related to that area. More recently he has been engaged in research
on the history of the revolutionary government of Mexico and its
relations with the United States.
JAMES PRESLEY, "Santa Anna in Texas: A Mexican Viewpoint,"
received the M.A. degree from the University of Texas and did
subsequent work at the Mexico City College before returning to
the University to continue his doctoral program. His professional
career includes wide experience in newspaper work on the staffs
of the Texarkana Gazette and the Amarillo Globe-Times, and he
has served as a graduate assistant in both the department of his-
tory and the department of anthropology at the University of
Texas since 1956.
RALPH W. STEEN, "A Letter from San Antonio de Bexar in
1836," is the newly inaugurated president of Stephen F. Austin
State College in Nacogdoches. Dr. Steen has long been an active
supporter of the Association's work as a member of the executive
council and as the president of the organization during the past
two years. Widely known as a writer as well as a teacher of history,
President Steen has produced several books and numerous articles
for the periodical press.
ROBERT PARTIN, "A Settler's Report (1836) on Santa Anna's
Defeat and Land Prospects in Texas," is a professor of history at
the Alabama Polytechnic Institute in Auburn. He received the
Ph.D. degree from George Peabody University and has taught in
numerous schools in Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama. The bib-
