Association member Robert C. Cotner, assistant professor of history at the University
of Texas, sits at Governor James Stephen Hogg's desk, which is now exhibited in the
Eugene C. Barker Texas History Center. Miss Ima Hogg, Association member from
Houston, gave the desk and two chairs used by her father to the University, along
with a desk used by her brother, Will C. Hogg, in his Houston office from 1921 until
his death in 1930. The chair used by Cotner in this picture was made by inmates of
the state penitentiary at Huntsville especially for the governor, who was six feet
two inches in height and weighed 275 pounds. Cotner is reading from the Dallas
Morning News of November 12, 1892, and dictating notes for his forthcoming biog-
raphy of the first native-born governor of the state.
