president, Texas State Historical Association, author of Anson
Jones: The Last President of Texas (New York, 1948) ; Eugene
C. Barker (2600 San Gabriel, Austin), professor emeritus of his-
tory at the University of Texas, author of The Life of Stephen F.
Austin, Founder of Texas, 1793-1836: A Chapter in the Westward
Movement of the Anglo-American People (2d ed., Austin, 1949) ;
and J. Evetts Haley (Canyon), professor at Texas Technological
College, author of Fort Concho and the Texas Frontier (San An-
gelo, 1952) .
PREVIOUS AWARDS. The 1951 award went to Dr. Barker for
his Life of Stephen F. Austin. The 1952 award was made to J.
Evetts Haley for Fort Concho.
ANNOUNCEMENT OF AWARDS. The recipient of the third Sum-
merfield G. Roberts Award of the Sons of the Republic of Texas
will be announced at the Awards Banquet of the Texas Institute
of Letters in Dallas in November, 1953.
