current past president of the West-
ern New York chapter of CSLA.
The publicity chair for the 1995 con-
ference in Houghton, she also pre-
sented a workshop there on enticing
readers with "nutshell" reviews.
She and her husband John are
the parents of five adult children and
share the bragging rights to six won-
derful grandchildren. They are long-
time members of the Rochester
Christian Reformed Church, where
JoMae has served both as member
and chair of the library committee
over the years.
A booklover since childhood
and a bookseller for the past 20 years,
J oMae frequently provides the
booktable for her chapter's meetings,
along with short book talks introduc-
ing new and pertinent titles for the
congregational library. Her reviews
also appear in the Christian Home
and School magazine from time to
time.Ruth Turney is a graduate of
Brown University (MA) and Southern
Connecticut State University (MLS).
Ruth worked as a Music Cataloger for
the Ferguston Library in Stamford,
Connecticut, for 15 years, and was
Church Librarian at Trinity Episcopal
Church in Newtown for many years.
Ruth has been an active member
of CSLA almost from the beginning,
attending 30 conferences. One of
founders of the Connecticut Chapter,
she is now an active member of the
Greater Kansas City Chapter. Ruth
and her husband Austin are both Life
Members of CSLA. A former treasurer
of CSLA, she has done many confer-
ence workshops and exhibits, and was
chair of a national conference in Con-
necticut.

Trinity Episcopal Church in Lawrence,
Kansas, and is Exhibits Chair for the
2000 CSLA conference in Kansas City.
Ruth was also Exhibits Chairs at the
Hartford conference in 1989 and the
Denver conference in 1996.4
Lois H. Ward continues to be an
enthusiastic advocate of congregational
libraries. For more than 30 years she
has served as a church librarian in Cali-
fornia and Ohio. Lois said, "I firmly
believe in libraries for all denomina-
tions, in congregations of every size,
and in all communities. Libraries have
such a potential to support the mission
of a congregation that I consider the
lack of a library a severe handicap in
pressing toward those goals. However,
congregational librarians need such
training and support as CSLA offers,
and too often new librarians do not
know this help is available. Spreading
the word about CSLA as widely and
enthusiastically as possible is a mission
I would be determined to undertake if
elected Second Vice President of
CSLA."
Lois served as CSLA president in
1997-98 and is an active member of the
Central Ohio Chapter and librarian at
St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Prospect,
Ohio. Now retired, during her "civil-
ian career" as a librarian, she was em-
ployed in academic, public, special, and
newspaper libraries.
